The cold weather in January and the snow in February resulted in a slow start to the gardening year. However, spring is proving to be a very busy time for Running Hare with an ever-increasing demand for our ‘spring tidy up’ service. As well as weeding and tidying borders many shrubs such as Cornus, Buddleja, Viburnum and roses benefit from pruning in late winter or early spring.
On the design front, we have a number of projects at various stages. We have just finished planting up a rear garden in Bracknell which was started last year, and a small garden build in Chessington is nearing completion and also a courtyard garden in Wimbledon. A couple of other designs, in Weybridge and Brockham, are at the tender stage prior to landscaping work being carried out.
It looks like being a busy year for planting work with several new clients asking for borders to be replanted or refreshed. We have just re-planted some borders for a client in the Cotswolds. At one garden in Weybridge we will be enhancing the existing planting and widening side borders to enable a selection of summer flowering perennials to be planted, bringing colour and scent to summer evenings. At a garden in Woking we will be renovating borders planted several years ago and introducing new plants to plug gaps and provide ground cover beneath the shrubs.
